Summer 2008 came and is going far too fast!
Hi!
Maybe I'll commit to a quarterly annual blog update. I don't even have facebook and my blog has died. Not that it's important to update but I once enjoyed it and those were good times in my life, and I don't want anyone to think those good times are over. Maybe they've intensified. Since I got back from Kenya something has changed, but I'm not exactly sure what. Life moves so darn fast. I don't take time to reflect on how amazing each day is. I don't know where to start.
I am back working as a recreation therapist with people with dissabilities in Red Deer. It's an absolutely awesome job that has made each day of this summer fly by with laughter, creativity and suprises. The clients I am priveledged to work with are such interesting people to get to know. On the weekends I still work at farmers markets for the Prins' and I enjoy that. It's rewarding and refreshing to sell good healthy people good healthy stuff every Saturday.
Highlights of this summer thus far:

new horizons
Summer is coming to an end, but September has been wonderfully warm and sunny so far. My garden is still going crazy and soon I will harvest bundles and bundles of fresh herbs. Let me know if you need a dealer. ha.
I've had an awesome summer and have learned more than expected about social work and people with disabilities. At one point I considered working here permanently for a variety of reasons, most of which were out of a selfish desire to remain very comfortable. I've decided it crucial to finish my social science degree and make decisions from there. It's a pretty great feeling to be in a line of work that you feel suited for and fulfilled by. It's good to know that it's possible and I'll likely find it again someday, but I hope to keep that at arms length for a while. Anyway, one more week of work and I'll be a little sad to leave my quirky friends living at Michener center. Working in recreation with these people has been very ideal.

at first glance this is me, but guess again. It is my quickly growing up little sister. We had a big family gathering out at the Lacombe corn maze the other night. What a great place. Better than any carnival in the world in my opinion. http://www.lacombecornmaze.com/?gclid=CNKgndvaqI4CFR9cYQodm2sWTw

Sara was home for a short while and we planned to have "crazy Sunday" together. It turned out to be a rather serene day but a great trip out to the water in the big market van to float around in the dingy boat.

Should I have asked Sara's permission to post this?
I'd like to take this opportunity to advertise Sara's photography website. It is beautiful. http://www.saraprins.com/

A blurry Alberta horizon.

A clear Kenyan horizon.
As some of you already know, I leave in about 12 days for a 3 month internship in Kisumu, Kenya. I will be learning and working there with a wonderful Kenyan woman named Fidelis Wainaina. I don't know many details so for now I will just anticipate great adventure and tell you what my life will be for the next 3 months as soon as I know.
So without further a due, I will be closing off this blog for 3 months or so and continuing on http://justineinkenya.blogspot.com/ for academic purposes. Please visit me there.
peace.

six string nation guitar
check out www.sixstringnation.com to learn about the coolest gee-tar. It's been carefully crafted for over 10 years to be made up of over 60 different types of wood that hold Canadian significance. Example: somewhere near the pick-board is a piece of Wayne Gretzky's hockey stick. I got to play it at folk fest and they photographed me with it; bee-low.

Emo.
A quick 5 day trip that was so worth it! Emo is a wonderful little town in a very beautiful part of Canada. It contains much of my extended family and my history and identity. These are photos of me and my cousins at the Veldhuisen camp. I spent plenty of time on the lakes kayaking, fishing and swimming. Relatives are wonderfully crazy and inspiring people. It has been such a good summer so far.

All I caught was a freakin' cray fish! They kept tugging on our live leeches.
"emo" shot in Emo with my cousin look-alike Anna.
